Why do people use AOL? Here is a technical point why not to use them.

We moved a host to our systems last Friday. Network Solutions was updated then as well. So here it is a week later and AOL is still using the cached information. At least partially. Apparently the are using the cached mx record, but ARE looking up the IP address of the mx record. I.e. they have the mx record as being domain.com, its correct mx record is mail.domain.com. But they are smart enough to lookup domain.com to try and send mail there. Of course its not working.
Sigh. And of course we are asked to fix it.
We were DDOS'd at work last Friday. Its actually kinda funny. It was against our "sister" company. Its the company that we seem to have become because its CEO became our CEO and well now we seem to just merging.

Well that company does "opt-out" mailings. I can hear you know, SPAM. Well yeah basically but they do really honor opt-outs. Even better now that they convinced the CEO that when someone opts out of the parent list they really should get opt'd out of the master list as well, and not just the parent and children of that section.

Anyway we were down for about a half an hour while our ISP tried to control the traffic, there were about 47,000 IP's doing the DDOS.
Wow I really suck at posting on this don't I? I expect you are rather pissed that I am not. Oh well such is life. And as such lets here what I have been doing instead of posting.
We had a nice weekend the last weekend, well at least for part of it. Okay maybe it was not so nice but I still did yard work. I took out the chainsaw and felt like a man as I trimmed one of the horrible looking trees in our front yard. Why did it need a chainsaw to do that you ask? Well the lower limbs reached to the ground, and it was just gross as I think leaves and trash had accumulated there for the last 20 years as I know the previous owners did nothing there. I did that on Friday as I decided to take the day off, cause I felt like it.
Oh side note here, has anyone else noticed that HR departments never want to answer your questions about hours? Our company ridiculously makes us fill out a timesheet, even though we are salaried. So I filled out my timesheet and I asked the HR person, do I put down 8 hours of personal time on Friday cause I am taking the day off, or do I put 4 as I already had 36 hours for the week, and being salaried I should work 40. She said she did not know and it was up to my boss. Hmmm you know, if you have a sucky boss that really bites.
Anyway so I trimmed all that and raked up most of the front yard. Now the whole day it was overcast and drizzly, but not actually raining. So it was messy out but not enough to stop me from doing it, so I did. I filled up our mini-van, yes the mini-van, no truck for me, removed the the seats and really filled it up with branches. Of course the recycling center was not open till the next day but hey that way we could go right at 10. The next day is Saturday and I let my wife take the load to the recycling center, she likes to and she can usually get one of the guys to help her out, whereas I would be left on my own and laughed at from a distance buy the rugged recycling center gang. So she would drop that off and I would fill it again and we got a couple trips of that done. And I worked more outside.
On Sunday, I was feeling like crap, so instead of working outside I worked a bit inside cleaning the house.
So that was my boring weekend.
