Wow. Its been a while, quite a while. That happens when you get busy. Lets see the last day I posted was the 9th. A little over a week ago. So lets get up to date. That night I took my wife to Spiderman, and it was still as good the second time thru. I do not see movies twice in the theatre often, in fact only done it once before and that was for Episode 1. Had to take my son one on one before I took my wife... And this is the second time. It was just that damn good, and I am really glad I did. The next day our company was hit with layoffs. *sigh* I know everyone is having them, and they say the economy is getting better and there are going to be shortages in the IT sector, but you know what bullshit. People are not finding jobs, maybe elsewhere they are, but in this area its not happening. We had a lot of startups in this general vacinity, and they are either still going under or have gone... So we lost 4 people out of my group, essentially anyone that new anything about the systems is gone but me. So now I really am solely in charge of our two dozen plus servers. I do not mind the responsibility, but various pain in the butt things also need to occur now, like I get to be in charge of backups. That was grunt work when I started out in IT, it still is. A big pain in the ass. We have no more QA on our main ecommerce product, thats gone. We lost 1 developer that did not work on our Ecommerce product, and we lost one developer that did. And we lost my backup. Oh but we got to keep the CEO's nephew who plays games all day. Friggin wonderful. So I got dragged into the bosses office at 9, and told to start turning off people's access to things. What a fun day that was. One of the guys has been here 5 years, turning off access for him is like finding shit in a sewer, its everywhere. Oh THEN I was supposed to go up to my parents, we had not seen them since January and they wanted to see us and the kids. I had given the on-call phone to my backup, but gee now there was none. So I had to take it with me and give a quick course in passwords and procedures to those that are left, which have no knowledge of these systems, or really a care. I did get to go up to my parents and had a nice visit, not the best but I got to see my brothers and one I had not seen in almost a year. Then I come back this week to work, and its a matter of doing everyone elses job and mine. Its not been horrendous yet luckily. But its been fun cleaning up things that break cause I turned off access or because someone used to go and do this manually each day. I also got new glasses, apparently my eye site has gotten a bit better, not tons though. Nice change, rather than everything going to pot as I get older somethings getting better. Maybe by the time I am 60 I will not need glasses anymore. I also decided to get sunglasses too. My eyes are very sensitive to sunlight, and I haven't had sunglasses for years, so I wanted to finally have something. So I did, call me spoiled. Oh and we are having a party tomorrow. I am not a big party person but this should be fun, we invited a lot a families unfortunately most could not go, but for those that are it should be fun.
